Head Chef
The Beefy Boys
Four mates. One back-garden barbecue that got out of hand. A burger that came second in the world.
That was 2011. Now there are eight Beefy Boys restaurants, over 400 of us and the UK's Best Burger title on the wall. We want a head chef who'll keep it there.
Here's the job.
It's your kitchen, and you'll be cooking with ingredients worth getting excited about: 21-day aged Hereford beef from local farms, buns from an award-winning local baker, and house favourites like our chilli sauce and pastrami made from scratch. You'll build and lead the team, from the KP to your sous, and make sure every burger leaves the pass exactly as it should. You'll own food safety, ordering, suppliers, GP and waste, and you'll work closely with the GM to make sure the kitchen and the floor run as one team. You'll lead from the line, not the office.
You'll fit right in if...
you've run a busy, high-volume kitchen and you've got the results to show for it. You hire well, you coach hard and your chefs stick around. You're obsessed with consistency, you still love cooking, and you'd run a burger to a table yourself rather than let it go cold on the pass.
The honest bit.
It's a big job. Our kitchens are fast and busy, and our standards don't move. If you want a kitchen you can run on autopilot, this isn't it. If you want to make the best burger in the country even better, keep reading.
So, what's the pay?
Nobody works for free, so let's be upfront. And honestly? It's good. Your salary is £34.5k to £37.5k. Last year, our senior chefs took home an average of £8k each from tronc. On top of that there's a quarterly bonus. Last year most of our sites paid out 85% or more of it, which works out at around £5.1k a year. Tronc goes up and down with how busy we are, but all in, you're looking at up to £50.5k a year.
It's a 45-hour contract. Prep starts at 9am and we close at 9.30, so no 6am starts and no 2am finishes.
What else you get.
All the stuff you'd expect is here: holiday, a pension, free food every shift and money off when you bring your mates in. Plus wellbeing support, including a GP and mental health support, and we close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. But ask anyone who's been here a while and they'll tell you it's the people. Two staff parties a year, including a summer festival that reminds everyone why they love it, a real say in the menu, and a route into a bigger kitchen role as we open more restaurants.
